Protestors outside Parliament will be nicked from August

mini mouse | 16.06.2005 10:29 | Repression | Social Struggles | London

Here's an story from yesterday that didn't seem to get the publicity it warranted:

"Political protests are to be curbed in a half-mile "exclusion zone" around Parliament, it emerged today.

Inside the zone, spontaneous demonstrations, even by a lone protester, will be banned.

Would-be demonstrators will be able to apply for permission to protest in the zone from 1 July. From 1 August it will be an arrestable offence to stage a spontaneous demonstration in the zone without permission".

So they've framed a law to get rid of Haw. Clear your diaries to defend his pitch on 2nd August!

Citizens!

Do not be deceived! This law protects democracy! Democracy is embodied in Parliament, to protest outside Parliament is to protest against Parliament, which is to protest against democracy. Protesting against democracy endangers democracy, so preventing protest protects democracy.

To display the mercy and tolerance of our democracy, permitted protest is still allowed (our democracy is robust and can withstand a little endangering...)

Freedom is slavery, etc.
