A violent clash between staff and detainees at the Dover Immigration Removal Centre left screws injured, allegedly, last Sunday afternoon. About 12 screws were confronted by 40 immigrants, angry because they were not allowed out of their unit to walk in the site's grounds. Members of the Dover Detainees Visitors Group were barred from entering the main building during the 'incident'. Site Performance Manager (I kid you not) Mick Maguire said: "One person became rather aggressive and assaulted a number of staff, so we had to restrain them. Another then became involved and also had to be restrained. It just escalated from there. The initial incident was a flare-up which lasted for about 15 to 20 minutes, but it was dealt with quite quickly...The situation came under control after 2 hours and the centre is now back to normal. No detaineses were injured allegedly. The Homo Office refused to comment. Good to see the dear old Dover Distress putting this as a front page splash so that it's largely Daily Mail adoring readers can use it to mentally masturbate over. Hurrah!
