Stop G8 Taking Liberties in Sheffield

Rhythms of Resistance Sheffield | 15.06.2005 09:52 | Sheffield

From 7 to 8am this morning samba tunes filled the air under a huge pink banner at Park Square Roundabout.

We were up early this morning to greet the traffic at Park Square Roundabout. Our huge pink banner was unfurled on the footbridge facing sheaf street whilst we stood on the curbside of the roundabout underneath and played groovey tunes for the passing commuters. Our banner, "Stop G8 taking liberties in Sheffield" was supported by a lot of the passing cars who honked and waved with approval. Funnily enough, the police present seemed to enjoy our music just as much as they filmed and photographed us for the whole hour we played. We had an eager group of friends with us who, as well as hanging the banner, handed out leaflets to vehicles stopping at the traffic lights warning them of the disruption during the rest of the week and urging them to support our protest. Good times had by all and when we decided we were ready to go, the police kindly lollypop-ladied us back across the road, to get off the roundabout. We were by no means forced to leave, but had to (sadly) as many of us we had to be at work for 9am!

Lots of cameras there so we should have pictures to follow. (if you have any could you post them up please!)

thanks to everyone involved,
RoRsxxxxx
