whats goin on

please see our website for full info:  http://www.dosummat.org.uk/G8page.htm

our G8 sketch:

The Van Plan. How we get there and what we plan to do before we go. Our plan is simple. Book some vans for the first and second weeks of July. Meet on the 19 of June at 1pm to do some direct action training and then on monday 20th at 6pm (both events at The Basement, 24 lever st) organise when the vans will leave and return, as not everyone will be able to stay the full week. Set up a group to organise the kitchen and marquee that were going to take and discuss things we might do in Scotland.

A home in the country!

Where we shall stay. There will be a large rural convergence space where many of the people going to the G8 protests from the UK and Europe will be staying. Manchester mobilising against the G8 will set up it's marquee and kitchen here. There will be no accommodation in the marquee so people
will have to bring their own tents. The marquee will be a meeting space, a place of rest and recuperation, a canteen and a base camp for our time in Scotland. Hopefully this will provide a space and a time in which people who haven't done this kind of thing before can find their feet in a supportive and welcoming atmosphere.

Other cities such as Leeds will be doing the same and the convergence space will be made up of a series of self managed neighbourhoods. Who knows: if we can break
ourselves away from the endless feasting and silk pillows we might even do some decent direct action.

also the convergence is split into barrios and we will be a barrio so there will be 200 of us living together cooking together and stuff it will be top...so thats people from manchester plus people from all around the world all working together and havin mucho fun...

Direct Action at Glen Eagles
Some actions are already planned so we'll all have to decide which ones we join in with. We may want to do something as a large group or all go off on our own adventures, perhaps meeting in the evening to exchange experiences and recoup before the next day. Maybe the most important actions havn't yet been planned - because they require the kind of knowledge that we can only get when we're there.

The advantage of being without hierarchies is that any of us can come up with ideas and plans for action at any time....this keeps us on our toes -and the G8 gaurds
guessing...expect some chaos, frustration and times of great excitement. For larger actions maybe well have to send a 'delegate' to the planning meetings. There will be
meetings, and meetings of meetings (but don't worry if you cant handle that---- you can probably avoid most of them).

We aim to be flexible but decisive, and to act in a non-hierarchical, inclusive way. We want to have a good time, meet people, and put a spanner in the works of the G8, its at times like these that great things can happen... Hopefully we'll come back to Manchester tired but with some crazy tales to tell: stronger braver and more
beautiful than when we left.

how to get involved:

come to one of our next G8 manchester events and sign up! we ask everyone who wants to come to please come to the meeting on MONDAY 20th JUNE at 6pm at the basement (24 lever st manchester)...it is really important that you come to this meeting so that

1.we know who is comin
2.so you get to input into what will happen and how it will run
3.so you can be involved and meet everyone who's comin before we go

If you are planning to go up to scotland in your own transport then please still come to the meeting as we will welcome you to stay and participate in our Manchester Barrio, as not only will it be uber fun but it will also enable us all to build relationships with other mancunians sharing similar ideals...it means that we can share experiences and adventures so that we come back from the G8 stronger and together.

we are also doing a direct action workshop on SUNDAY 19th JUNE at 1pm at the basement which will provide info of stuff that will be goin on in scotland and also info and advice as well as practical skills in direct action.

and come to the G8 critical mass on 24 JUNE at 6pm outside CENTRAL LIBRARY which will be followed by allsorts of fun shinanigans..for more info see  http://www.dosummat.org.uk/G8page.htm and www.velorution.org.uk
