Liverpool Regeneration - Why we need to stop it

Baz | 10.06.2005 16:15

A £73 million programme of works is currently underway to improve the roads, streets and public spaces within Liverpool City Centre

Known as the City Centre Movement Strategy it includes the following improvements:
Pedestrian Priority Areas
High Quality Public Transport Corridors
Traffic and Circulation Plan.

Some physical works have already started to improve conditions for pedestrians, such as improved footway paving and enhanced public spaces. Completed sites such as Greater Williamson Square and the Cavern Quarter are examples of the work they have undertaken.

All this work could well make the people of Liverpool feel the quality of their lives is improving and as such they will be less likely to vote for or support Left of Centre political organisations or activist groups. Research has shown once people become content they drift more to the mainstream political viewpoint and so we must fight this scheme.

A protest is being held this saturday at 12 noon outside the City Hall, please come and support us.

A very honest post

A difficult subject to talk about openly but it is one we need to address. As Baz said once most people start to feel "well off" they stop supporting action groups.

We have to face the fact we need to keep some groups within society both poor and unhappy so we can make use of that rage for the power it gives. Schemes like this one in Liverpool must be resisted and stopped.

Troops

The poor and unhappy have always been excellent troops. The Communists used them first but many groups have found them useful. It is doubtful there can be a working class revolution without them - they are the shock troops, the hard edge of the struggle.

A bigger worry

It's not the poor I care about it's the educated intelligensia I'm worried about. How long can we keep fooling them ?

Don't worry Mark

The "educated intelligensia" are easy - the poor and uneducated eventualy question the lies they have been told, the intelligensia simply pretend they knew all along. Think New Labour

Dear IMC Moderators,

Please remove this post. This is not the sort of information we need to see in the public domain. I wish those who are working in the political arena would remember that forums like this can be read by anyone.

So what do you tell the Proles when they ask why you're protesting?

13.06.2005 14:03

Do you say: "Umm, yeah, well obviously the scheme is a good idea and would improve your quality of life so we're here to prevent it from happening and therefore you'll all be pissed off and downtrodden and hopefully you'll all join a far left group and overthrow capitalism."

What a load of juvenile crapola! You build support by proving that the left is on the SAME SIDE as working people, not a bunch of arrogant political hacks who know "what is best" for the poor, ignorant masses.

Shame on you. Shame on you all.

Screw elitist vanguard types and their ultra-left bullshit

"This is not the sort of information we need to see in the public domain. I wish those who are working in the political arena would remember that forums like this can be read by anyone."

You regard yourselves as "working in the political arena" ?
With views and intentions as expressed here ?
And you normally keep these hidden in your own circle ?
And you write apparently educated and well-spelled sentences like this about this need for secrecy ?

Ok - you've changed my mind - for the first time I see you and your like for what you are.
My enemy.

Forewarned is fore-armed, and I'm now both. I'm on the watch now to detect when this sort of evil is beneath the surface of otherwise puzzling policies. Could explain much that's seemed odd in the past. I've obviously been misidentifying evil as stupidity. No more.

trolls have littler trolls upon their backs to bite em

Just in case anyone is in danger of being fooled - I think it's pretty clear this entire thread, original post and comments and all, is just a bunch of right-wing trolls talking to each other about how they imagine the Left works.

No serious activist talks about 'proles' or wants to make people suffer for the sake of recruitment. Apart from anything else miserable people are less likely to get active and more likely to turn to the Right.

(hence all these sad-act trolls with nowt better to do than make up rubbish!)
