From 6th June
Mass Gathering* decides: Nationalisation and Popular Campesino Government

The Streets
The Streets

Endless columns of men and women from workers groups and indigenous communities have decided not to stop the mobilisation until they have succeeded in nationalising hydrocarbons (natural gas) and formed a popular campesino government.

After the gathering* at Plaza San Francisco, thousands of people tried to surround Plaza Murillo. The then president Carlos Mesa was evacuated from the palace and would speak within minutes, people were expecting his resignation.

The Police had fired a large amount of gas on the marchers.

From Santa Cruz, the ‘man’ of the multinationals and the oligarchy, the current leader of the National Congress, Hormando Vaca Diez, announced that parliament would not sit tomorrow. It was rumoured that if Mesa resigned, Vaca Diez would takeover the government as it stands.

Translation notes: Gathering imprecise translation of Cabildo (lit. town hall)
La Paz is the Capital, Santa Cruz is where congress is.

Now have translation for Cabildo - translated as 'gathering' in above...
It is a non-hierarchical multi disciplinary decision making group.

Congress is in Sucre NOT Santa Cruz.
