***STOP THE PLUNDER OF IRAQ'S OIL!***

***PLEASE CIRCULATE WIDELY***

Protest outside ‘Iraqi Petroleum Conference 2005’
29th June, The Hilton, Paddington.
Meet 10.30am, Edgeware Road tube

A week before Blair hosts the G8, corporate executives from multinational oil companies will be meeting in London with representatives from the Iraqi government to discuss the future of Iraqi oil and gas reserves.

In February 2003, one month before the invasion of Iraq, the US drew up
‘sweeping plans to remake Iraq’s economy … based on free-market principles’, including the ‘mass privatisation of Iraqi industry’ – including its oil sector (Wall Street Journal, 1 May ‘03). Such policies would likely further impoverish millions of Iraqis and must be resisted.

SpOIL’s of War
The key question will be whether Big Oil can get sufficiently favourable terms from a future Iraqi government. Today, with their military forces still occupying Iraq – and with Saddam’s vast debt burden to use as leverage – the US and British governments are well-positioned to dictate just such terms.

With Bush in the White House again, Blair hosting the G8, and Wolfowitz
heading the World Bank, people must actively oppose the neo-liberal cronies pillaging Iraq and support the Iraqi people's call for

NO PRIVATISATION,
NO ASSET STRIPPING
NO EXPATRIATION OF PROFITS.

Join the corporate pirates on the 29th June to protest the corporate plunder of Iraq’s oil! We'll be providing a big pirate ship, we just need you to come dressed as pirates!

This event is being in solidarity with the General Union of Oil Employees in Iraq who are resisting the attempted privatisations by the occupying forces. We will be reading out a statement from the GUOE outside the conference.

Buccaneers at the Hotel!!

29.06.2005 12:44

I work next to Paddington station and it was great to see and hear the demo from our office window. I went out to join in but the police had cordoned off the protesters at the side of the station. The boys in blue must have been getting really hot and sweaty as they clung to each other so they eventually moved the demo away – and left them right in front of the hotel – which is probably the best place to be for the delegates to hear the it!!!
