MAKE BORDERS HISTORY

A Call out for a Walking tour of links to Migration Control.

 http://www.makebordershistory.org

We need Tour guides, Music makers and performers of all variety.

On Sunday July the 3rd we can go on our own tour to visit some of the magicians who help asylum seekers "disappear". We will visit organisations involved in locking up and deporting Asylum seekers.

When we will visit places like the reporting centre in Govan where refugees have to sign on, British Airways who make the job of deporting people possible, the one stop shop in Sighthill who support refugees.

Tour Guides: Each group will have a tour guide or two. So we need volunteers to take on this role. We will provide guides with detailed directions and all the information and training needed to help share knowledge about these “points of interest”.

Can you speak to groups? Are you teacher, a trainer, a parent, an scout / girl guide leader, or do you just know you have a voice and the ability? If so please make contact to help us.

Performers: Outside the stops on the tour we are inviting performers to work together to tell the story of each organisation. We call you to join us to creatively communicate the inhumanity of deportation, the brutality of detention and hypocrisy of Fortress Europe.

If you are prepared to help get this message across with street theatre, music, spoken word, stilts walking, dance or any other medium please make contact.

Film-makers and Media Activists: This event will be very energic and photogenic. If use media for positive social change and want to co-ordinate your efforts with the performers and make sure you know whats going on. Please get in touch. Corporate Media need not apply.

Contact  migrartists@yahoo.co.uk or  g8refugee-action@lists.riseup.net and we'll get back to you with phone details if you need them.

There is also a meeting to plan the whole day on Thursday, June 16th, 10h Convergence Space, (PLAZA Funktion room, 66 Spital hill, Burngreave, Sheffield)

The full call to action for the Tour is is online at  http://www.makebordershistory.org

Can we add a few detention centres to the tour? Most people actually have no idea that over 1.600 innocent men, women and children are locked up at this moment of time without having committed any crime and without time limits. From there many are taken and deported, often to countries where their lives are in danger. Many are beaten by escorts on their way to the airport, in order to 'persuade' them to leave. True many of us will be going to Dungavel on their way to the G8, but there are many other detention centres, and we want to make them visible. It would be nice to have a little tour of detention centres on the way to Dungavel and the G8. Could call it 'lager sight-seeing tour'?
