It never ceases to amaze me....

...how such a high-profile group of people such as this can meet annually without even the slightest fluctuations of recognition in the media. People talk about G8 all the time......But when will there be a significant protest outside the Bilderberg Conference? How about even in the name of political transparency, let alone the globalisation / content matter implications.....

I feel it is time to rally the troops....

Andrew

But is this for real or not? That's the question...

13.05.2005 10:26

I occasionally hear people banging on about the Bilderberg Organisation, often in conjunction with the so-called "Illuminati". Important buildings that secretly look like owls (if you're stoned perhaps???) sometimes come into it. Age-old cults are involved. As are mystical rituals, and something called the "New World Order". And LOTS and LOTS of conspiracies. Anti-semitism appears to be an optional extra.

Some of the stories you hear are so far-fetched that they're just embarassing.

At the European Social Forum, I was in the audience for one talk, about Climate Change, and after the talk I made a short speech about how all the different issues are linked by globalisation and how neo-liberalism, and possibly capitalism itself is the underlying cause that we should be fighting, and we need to keep up our individual campaigns against climate change, war, sweatshop labour, biassed media, etc... but link these campaigns in solidarity with eachother with an understanding of the deeper structural problems associated with corporate power and state appeasement of corporate power, etc.

And after me, some other bloke got up and started banging on about how we've got to take on the Bilderberg Organisation and the Illuminati and the Free Masons and the New World Order. AGGGHHHH!!!

Sounds harsh but I just want to DISOWN people like that because they must do so much damage for the credibility of radical politics.

And yet, aside from all the mad conspiracy theories, I have heard from various 'sensible' people, that a Bilderberg Organisation does exist - it's not some sinister conspiracy to take over the world, as such, but rather it's a cosy "fire-side chat", a "networking opportunity" for the rich and powerful. Like a sort of less formal World Economic Forum. As such, it helps facilitate the 'management' of international affairs, and corporate globalisation in particular.

But is there really such a thing as a Bilderberg Organisation.

I rather suspect the person who wrote the original post here, just made those names up. Otherwise they would have provided SOURCES right? You can't just make some big claim without backing it up with sources.

Right well that's my tuppence worth on this rather bizarre subject.

the list of names seems to have been coopied from this german website :
 http://www.fosar-bludorf.com/bilderberger/Liste.htm
there is also a bit more info if you take the "liste.htm" away.

for english bilderberg websites see

BBC :  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3773019.stm

wikipedia :  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bilderberg_Group

 http://www.bilderberg.org/

nuff allready

as to the likelyhood of a "new world order" "illuminati" etc it is easy to interpret the capilaist/neo liberalist casue as a conspiracy, as it seems to make everything work hand in hand even if these hands dont know each other. so to stand back and rationally view all these wars for oil, one must assume that somehow the folks that run the petrol companys must have got chatting to the folks who run the invasion force, who in turn got chatting to the media clowns so that "the war" may be explained away via weapons of mass deception and or any other medical facility one can think of.

tada, so you apparently have this bilderberg group who since the late 40's early 50's have been meeting to first establish the World Bank from which point "they" could carry on their world domination game by having low key meetings every now and again with a rather impressive list of attendees and no press-conferences before or after to tell the rest of us mortals about whats going on.

so there, love peace and happiness

ROCK THE BOAT

Where to start Ozymandias?

 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3773019.stm  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3031717.stm
Well, according to the BBC they exist although they do their upmost to persuade you not to object or question it's existence by letting you know you will be in such company as "...Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, the London nail-bomber David Copeland and Osama Bin Laden..." if you do!

Ozymandias wrote: "I have heard from various 'sensible' people, that a Bilderberg Organisation does exist - it's not some sinister conspiracy to take over the world, as such, but rather it's a cosy "fire-side chat" "

Sensible equals not shattering your world view? Why plot to take over the world if you already run it and why can't this be done from a cosy fire-side?

Ozymandias wrote: "I made a short speech about how all the different issues are linked by globalisation"

So how are they all linked then, by pure coincidence or by design?

I assume "sensible" people think it's just pure coincidence that those people who gain from capitalism/war etc. like to meet up for secretive "fire-side chats" ?

Well, the white vans here...do you need a ride anywhere?

Oi!

No Middle East names!

13.05.2005 16:42

No names of a likely Middles East origin on the list. But I suppose that you would not people from countries in the Middle East in case you thought it may be a good idea to insert your capitlaist tape worm and suck it dry.

TP

no middle eastern names

14.05.2005 00:14

Well, I believe there's a Palestinian right at the top of the list
Yasser Arafat Bilderberged in about 1998
These are undoubtedly corporate fascists engaging in a superficially non-ritualistic talk-up of the latest geo-political wheels and deals
The left keeps well in line with its inattention because it blows the ideology of how the world operates
The Illuminati system of secret society gatherings is burgeoning into full view
While we only respond to the surface open gatherings like the G8, we are only hanging on Bono's shirttail

I heard that....

14.05.2005 06:31

i heard that  http://www.kool-is-bollocks.com were planning to set up some sort of protest under the guise of a nearby rave?

proper resource on the bilderberg group here

14.05.2005 13:45

It does appear that the Bilderberg group is nothing more than a talk shop for the elites.

Theres a great resource on this here which covers all angles :

 http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Bilderberg

be careful of websites like www.bilderberg.org - to paparaphrase the source watch website;

"The www.bilderberg.org site is a prime example of right-wing populist conspiracism. It's owner is worried that we are approaching the Biblical "End Times" and thinks the Bilderberger group might be part of the plot by Satan to build a one world government. This material is a mixture of fact, speculation, and apocalyptic demonization...Why are people recycling a right-wing anti-communist conspiracy theory? People need to be less credulous and gullible. Not everyone who has an anti-elitist framework is our ally..."

pete

let's be frank....

14.05.2005 20:13

i think to question whether the group actually exists isn't really the point here - it's quite obvious that this is a real group; the word "conspiracy" isn't really applicable.

The more important question should be of a philosophical nature. For example, let's assume that I am the chairman of a major multinational oil company. I decide to stage a business/social engagement at a country hotel for the weekend, and I invite all the people on the above list.

Here's the point:-

Do I and my guests, and all the concepts and conversations which are exchanged there have a right to privacy? (Given the nature of the power of all these people).

The answer I believe, is yes, because anything else would be degradation of the basic human rights and would have implications for the whole of society: "When is group of people deemed powerful enough to have their actions monitored by the general public?" - It can't be measured.

The irony, and tragedy, is that this situation therefore gives powerful people (businesspeople, politicians, bankers and royalty) the green light to engage socially with one another whilst simultaneously furthering their own personal (or collective) political agendas, and done so behind the safety of closed doors.

If the consequence of any one of the conceptual exchanges that takes place at one of these meetings is that it changes the global (or local) political/business/social landscape and therefore affects the lives of ordinary civilians/workers, then what you have is effectively an all-powerful unaccountable authority.

And THAT is an errosion of basic democratic principles.
