We are Holyoke residents and supporters opposed to the 20-year contract with
Aquarion Services Company to privatize the long tradition of public operation of
the wastewater system. The promises of millions of dollars in savings
accompanies doubled sewer rates, the convenient threat of EPA fines begrudge us
a dime for the federally-mandated river cleanup, and we demand one thing:

We call on Mayor Sullivan and the DPW to provide a public alternative to private
operation. We want improvements to local operation and we want to keep city jobs
as vital parts of the public works infrastructure.

Holyoke is one of the poorest cities in the northeast, and yet clearly Aquarion
and parent company Kelda Group UK see profit in our rising sewer rates. This is
a business deal, and the savings don't add up to what we lose. The residents of
Holyoke can't afford to line the pockets of the Kelda Group and need to keep
wastewater a public utility. NO CONTRACT WITH AQUARION!
