A critical introduction to Nanotechnology and Converging Technologies

Alexis Vlandas - nanoscientist / spokesperson for Scientists for Global Responsibility (www.sgr.org.uk)
Its the world's most powerful technology, the next industrial revolution, the operating system for a new era of corporate and state control. its very very small and its very very big and Oxford is right at the heart of it - welcome to the Nanotech revolution where the world's most powerful companies, governments and militaries are seizing ownership
and control of nature at the level of atoms and molecules in order to remake the world from the bottom up.
Three critical speakers on nanotechnology will be giving a presentation followed by discussion about the brave new world of nanotechnology. - what is it? Which companies and countries are developing it? which nanotech products are already in the market? How will it impact upon the poor and the environment? How will it affect
human rights and privacy? How are the military investing in it? How will it change what it is to be a human being? How can the public wrest democratic control of new
technologies away from corporate and military interests?
