An election guide giving the low down on each candidate with star ratings. Great source of information on who to vote for.

Is voting Islamic?

Whilst in town today I saw several stickers telling people not to vote because voting isn't Islamic. Don't suppose you'd care to comment on that?

matter of interpretation

Its a matter of interpretation.

One small group of Muslims feel that by voting for a party you are agreeing with everything that party stands for and since none of the parties are Islamic to vote for any of them would effectively mean agreeing with something that is not Islamic. Also some feel that to participate in an election legitamises the western democratic process which bases its authority on man and not God and hence is by definition un-Islamic.

Most Muslims disagree and feel that its their duty as Muslims to help bring about social justice in the society that they live in even if that society is non-Muslim, it is their duty in following the Quranic commandment of enjoying the good and forbidding the evil to support non-Muslims if it helps the struggle against injustice - even if it means voting for candidates or parties with whom they do not fully agree but understand that by doing so they will prevent a greater evil from comming to power.
