04/27/2005: Bush Proposes Oil Refineries on Closed Military Bases - Washington, Apr 27, 2005 - President Bush unveiled a plan today to encourage building oil refineries on military sites that have closed. [American Forces Information Services]

Just in case there was any doubt about the connection between US militerism and the Oil industry, George Bush announced his plan for converting old military bases into new oil refineries.

Now be clear this is the transfer of US military assets to the oil industry, who do you suppose is going to profit from this?

Bush said expanding refinery capacity will help address the shortage that's partly blamed for skyrocketing gasoline prices. Does he think noone will notice this price increase is because he's destabilizing the major oil producing nations?

The sad thing is the amaricans probably won't notice, just my perverse watching of facistic RSS feeds that got it to me, the audacity!

Not quite true

The report said that US bases would be used for the storage of fuel oil for the military which is a long way from building refineries on bases.

Quite True Actually...

from the above referenced article:

---

During a White House press briefing today [April 27, 2005 -editor], spokesman Scott McClellan said the federal agencies would work with states and local communities to transfer closed military sites and make them available to refiners.

McClellan said many closed military bases are already being redeveloped or used for new purposes to help create jobs. Building oil refineries on some of them will "address a pressing problem that we face, and it will also address an economic need in these communities," he said.

that is precisely building refineries on them!
