Rally against win turbine blight

Hilary Southwell | 24.04.2005 05:57

Thank you to everyone who attended the rally on the Saddleworth Moors yesterday to protest against plans to site seven 350ft wind turbines there.

It was a wonderfull turnout with around 300 people present. Locals and others from around the UK (two from Belgium - thanks). Adrian Dunwoody made an great speech illustrating the flawed economic arguments of wind turbines and Alison Saunders from Friends of the Earth providing leaflets on the environmental damage these turbines cause. Representivies of the RSPB were also present to inform many on the amount of birds killed and injured by the turbines currently in use.

The campaign will continue and wish this tye of local support is sure to succeed.

NO TO WINDFARMS !

Fake citizens

Invariably these 'groups' are well off middle englanders not wanting the view spoiled in the area they purchased their second or retiement home. They speak of 'environmentally intrusiveness' of windturbines but have clearly never lived alongside an oil refinary in port talbot, Canvey Island or Grangemouth etc. They talk seriously of 'unpleasant flickering effects' as if it is on par to the ecologic devistation caused by a large damn scheme. They talk of disturbances from the noise (which is bollocks as you have to get REALLY close to hear anything) but clearly have no idea of the disturbances caused the the lives of the people of Iraq and elsewhere in the world where military intervention is used in ensure the continued supply of cheap energy for their SUVs.

They make me sick!

I'd have plenty of sympathy for their concerns if they were personally shunning petroleum culture themselves and living the lives of neo-primativists. But as long as they continue to enjoy the benefits of cheap energy produced at massive cost to the environment and peoples lives elsewhere in the world, then these people are just sick hypocrites.

Wind farm horror

Good lord. Thank goodness you have seen off the terrible threat of large shiny things blighting the horizon. I'd much prefer to fill the atmosphere with the shit from every last source of carbon we can dig up before flooding the world with dangerous nuclear waste we will never be rid of. Who are you people? Are you truly insane or just grotesquely ignorant? Wow.
