Protest against the British National Party's party political broadcast and call on the BBC to pull the plug on race hatred

BBC1 and BBC2 are set to transmit the first party political broadcast by the BNP in the general election campaign on Thursday 21st April. The BBC is not obliged under the law to transmit the broadcast. There are precedents for restrictions being put on the fascist and racist BNP - its previous broadcasts were either stopped entirely or subject to severe restriction due to their offensive content. Wherever the BNP have a presence, racist attacks increase. Prominent members of the BNP including its leader Nick Griffin have recently been charged under the section 18 of the Public Order Act which outlaws incitement to racial hatred.

A letter will be handed in, calling on the BBC to not to broadcast the BNP's message of race hate.

I'm glad the BNP PPB was broadcast. When the BBC starts to pick and choose which parties can have these broadcasts and which can't, then we really are in trouble. As long as we're virtually forced to pay to keep the BBC in wages they should broadcast what they are told to, not what they want. If BBC staff want to run a TV station which broadcasts only some of the political views of the popuation, then they can always resign and set up such a station with their own money, not ours.

BNP Broadcast

Hi,

I think that in some ways it was good that the BNP party political broadcast was shown on TV. As they looked like complete fools! The phrase "if you give someone enough rope" springs to mind! :o)

The only downside is that thick people might vote for them. The bottom line however is the BNP will never get in, or indeed if they do I presume we will be in much deeper water than worrying about a party political broadcast, queue footage of goose stepping!
