Robert Newman to play free comedy gig at Trade Justice demo this friday

The Trade Justice Movement has announced activist and author Robert Newman will head the Comedy line up at this friday's Wake Up to Trade Justice all night protest.

FREE! Midnight comedy event with comedians Robert Newman, Andrew Maxwell, Marcus Brigstocke and Ivor Dembina (compere).

Robert Newman has been politically active with Reclaim the Streets, the Liverpool dockers, Indymedia and People's Global Action. His latest and third novel is The Fountain At The Center Of The World which covers anti-free trade activism. His latest show ‘ApoCalypso Now: From P45 to AK47: How To Grow The Economy With War’ is currently touring. His latest CD and DVD is the show before that, ‘From Taliban to Caliban’. Robert began his comedy career as a member of radio and tv series The Mary Whitehouse Experience with David Baddiel, Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis. With Baddiel, he formed a comedy double act that soon had ‘pop-star-like status’ (BBC-speak) in the 90s before he went on to carve his own very special territory as author, activist and comedian.

"Wake Up to Trade Justice"

Ends: 8am Saturday.
Location: Whitehall and Westminister.
Thousands to light up Whitehall in all night vigil. Stars from stage, screen and the music world will be among activists, campaigners and thousands of people rallying in Westminster to call for Trade Justice not free trade.
HIGHLIGHTS
- See Whitehall lit up with thousands of candles and lights
- Have fun and dance to great music
- Hear trade campaigners from around the world
- Join the dawn procession past Downing Street
- Support the global delegation of trade campaigners as they meet political leaders

This event will be safe for everyone - with activities and workshops throughout the night, stewards, hot drinks, a fair trade cafe and warm, dry places to go.
