where were the unions ?

when looking at the other pics from around the countrys similtanious demos of yesterday I noticed that in other cities there were union banners NUJ most prominant and I wondering why none of the unions in London came out to support this march ?
I know there were union members on it but no actual offical union presence.
I've been told that when numerous people were fleeing the purges of Hitler in 1938 it was the unions who made it difficult for them to come to this country and obviously that legacy remains.
Institutional Racism is alive and well it seems within the union movment
