Lakenheath Vigil

repost from campeace | 01.04.2005 18:01 | Anti-militarism | Ecology | Cambridge

Following the wide publicity given recently to an authoritative U.S.estimate (Natural Resources Defense Council) that there are 110 nuclear bombs at Lakenheath, there will be a demonstration at the base:

Thursday 14th April between 4p.m. and 7p.m. at Gate 1 on the A1065

At the same time, we will be joining the annual vigil at Gate 1 to commemorate the bombing of Libya by planes flying from Lakenheath on this day ...

... remembering all victims of international terrorism, whose numbers grow year on year.

In a month's time the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference will begin in New York at the United Nations. One of the issues will be the presence of tactical nuclear weapons in Europe (both U.S. and Russian). The bombs at Lakenheath are part of this strategically redundant, but still dangerous, arsenal. We need to send a message to the Conference that we want them to go.

Bring banners and placards!

For those living in or near Norwich, there will be transport leaving at 3 p.m. For further information, please contact Davida on (01508) 550446, or reply to this e-message.

There is parking on the A1065, about 1/4 mile south of Gate 1, in laybys either side of the road near phone box.

This event is organised by Lakenheath Action Group and Norwich CND
