Strangewayz & Anodyne 19.03.05
Strangeways on the case again. The only crew who continue to represent the party scene in manchester. This collective is like a machine that dont stop, and if they say they are gonna
parrty, they will. Regardless of anything that might get in their way. For example if they cant get a venue, those in the know still get to party in their basement!
So they got the venue together at the last minute, and a fine huge warehouse it was too. A bit far outta town, but not hard to find. Strangewayz setup with the projectors atop the huge van. Amazing visuals, the main projection was 60+ feet across, plus a second projector and lazers. The system
seemed to be runnin as it should. The scoops pumping out enuff bass when you were close up. Although they were experiencing problems with the generator and they lost power a few times. They got this sorted out and kept the party rockin. I believe they were playing a mixture of drum n bass, techno and the like, but as i spent most of the time at Anodyne's smaller sound system , i carnt be sure.
Anodyne are new and have only been at a few free parties more recently. These guys play a mixup of all styles includin funk, hip-hop, d'n'b, and anything in between, but mainly a lot of reggae. It is cool to hear people doin this rather than just the techno/gabba stylee. Altough they had a much smaller rig, they certainly had the choicest riddims, and rocked it all night. With a reasonable
crowd until people kept switchin off the power on purpose, damn saboteurs. More power to their different style. Bringing back music, that birthed the idea of sound systems in the first place!
Apart form the power problems they only other bad points to be made, were lack of other systems. Where is everybody hiding? Its time to get up and DO your thing. You know who you are. Too many peeps being insular and hiding in hulme! Get your rigs out and give guys! Also why dont all the activists in manchester get involved? Instead of staying at home in the redbricks moaning about bloody usless clubbers, or whatever? At a wareouse, you have a captive audience of hundreds if not thousands of people on neutral ground, who are obviously willing to
expand their minds. BEYOND TV, THE BASEMENT cafe, RECLAIM THE STREETS, NATO, DOSUMMAT, whoever, get down give some people some info. Recyling points, street theatre, circus skills, anything?
All in all a great aprty, no trouble , good vibes, and a good crowd. Nice one to everybody for travelling and getting down to this one. Hopefully now the weathers getting better, more people and more rigs will be out to create their own thing. These parties are an amazing place to show people how they can make actions and communicate. You dont need authorization from above, or live up to some consmerist/capitalist ideals. If you got the skills, the competance and the responsibility,
get up and make your dreams reality.
