Statement from the President of the Basra Oil Union, Hassan Jumaa Awad.

In the name of God the compassionate, the merciful

General Union of Oil Employees, Basrah

Iraq – Basrah – Bab al-Zober

Number: 24

Date: 16/03/2005

Dear Friends

Assassination attempt of senior activist of GUOE

In this time of harsh conditions for the region and amidst the threats of the difficult period in which Iraqis are living and the predominance of evil forces over the good persons who work for the betterment of a great Iraq, there is a group of people who have devoted themselves to working in and protecting the oil sector as the sole resource which Iraqis possess.

Yesterday Mr. Samir Yasin Sabbah, head of the Section of the Union in the Fao Sector, was the object of a bomb that destroyed his car. This aimed to terminate his work and to further the interests of those poor souls who seek only their own not the wider good. At the time of this terrible attempt on the life on the unionist, whom God in his justice saved from death as he practiced his honourable work in the service of noble Iraq, we call upon all decent persons and friends of the Union abroad to express their solidarity with us in the hope of preventing the criminal acts presently directed against the Union in Iraq.

Long live the heroic union organisations,

Long live the brave working class,

Shame and dishonour to the cowardly terrorists who do not want stability for this country; may God stay their hands.

With respect,

Hasan Juma `Awad

The Real Terrorists

Yes, this is a tragedy, however you are naive. The terrorists you talk about are, without any doubt, the CIA and US military intelligence. Who benefits from this, the US.

They tried to assassinate the freed Italian hostage, and only killed the Italian Secret Service agent who was escorting her probably because they knew too much..

The CIA have done this of thing many times before in other countries, Vietnam, south America, haiti, Indonesia, and on and on and on.

Please, I understand your grief, as syndicalist myself , but don't be fooled by US black propaganda. And remember the CIA and MOSSAD are operating terrorist cells in Iraq.

Grow up

Yes AFKAED and don't forget the CIA and Mossad are listening to you via your TV as well.

Why is it taking so long for the facts to sink in. Iraq is over, democracy won, Saddam is captured, his nasty sons dead, his brother in jail, his B'ath party in ruins. Just because this was a succesful US led action that showed the Euro Left how wrong it was now you have to go looking for fantasy events. Grow up.

you so want to believe that, don't you?

'Iraq is over...' In other words, move along, nothing to see here any more.

That'd be easy wouldn't it? Forget the tens of thousands of civilian casualties of the war and occupation, including all those children. Forget the destruction of Fallujah. Forget the almost daily casualties of the continuing insurgency/resistance. Forget that (most of) the people of Iraq just elected a govt committed to getting US/UK troops out.

No, your simple appealing Hollywood film script version is done and dusted. We went in and 'kicked Saddam's ass' (despite the fact he lived and it was thousands of others who died), some people pulled down a statue, purple fingers, end of story. Quick, stop looking before any more bad things happen.

The tragedy is that you send other (poorer) people as troops to live, kill and die in the reality while you puff yourself up with the comforting fantasy. Must make you proud.
