urgent- sign petition now at www.essfnetwork.org
coming out of the ESF a network was set up- the European Science Social Forum network- basically socially reponsible science. there is a small window of opportunity to get this important petition signed. please get on it and pass the word around Asap there isnt much time for this.

please go to

PLEASE NETWORK THIS LIKE CRAZY
the ESSF network aims to get in there at regulatory level and have a good go at getting social justice and sustainability issues as core remits in the new EU funding process (F7). ie, we dont react to technology once an R+D budget has funded its existence- we make sure only environmentally firendly and socially responsible science happens in the first place. there is a strong critique of the way industry and 'competitveness' are driving the R+D agenda to the detriment and exclusion of pretty much everything else. the more people and organisations who input into this process the better.
the petition is very much a starting point to get the broad aims and critiques of the essf network into the f7 round in the rapdily shutting window of opportunity before the f7 draft is announced in april.
the network encourages wiki stylee participation. well go and have a look.
ok, chances of the f7 honchos coming over all hippy and saying 'hey, who liked competitiveneess anyway and what the smeg did we mean by the knowledge economy- what a load of pants!' are fairly small. but likely that this process will open up a space for more decent projects (eg alt tech, permaculture etc) to be funded.
plus it provides a 'respectable' framework which will work symbiotically with direct action tactics and anti g8 stuff and that.
