ABOUT

Ladyfest Brighton is a non-profit D.I.Y. festival
taking place in various venues around Brighton on the
20th-23rd October 2005. Organised primarily by women
for the benefit of the wider community, Ladyfest
Brighton will showcase performances by bands, visual
artists, fashion designers, writers, film-makers,
dancers,zine kids,teachers, students and activists.
With the first Ladyfest taking place in Olympia,
Washington in 2000, and since speading to over 50
cities world-wide, Ladyfest Brighton joins a global
movement of young women promoting women and queer
based projects, arts and activism in their
communities.

The principle is simple: a group of volunteers come
together and plan a four-day festival encompassing
workshops, politics, education, networking, and
reclaiming culture from mega-corporate interest.
Ladyfest is all about creating an alternative kind of
space; they're friendly, non-cliquey events where we
can can come together, have a great time, and
celebrate the diversity and strength of female talent
across the arts. We aim to make women's work in arts
and activism more visible and hope to train and
encourage more women to creatively express themselves,
get involved in their communities and develop
leadership qualities.
