Protest at home of bailiff Bryan Constant

Tony Jackson | 08.03.2005 17:14 | Repression | Social Struggles

Around a dozen people protested outside the home of bailiff Bryan Constant, of Riseley, Bedfordshire on Sunday. Protestors rang bells, blew whistles & hit pots & pans.

Mr Constant runs Constant & Co, a Bedford - based company that specializes in evicting Travellers using violence, often from land that they have bought and occupied for years. In January Constant Baliffs jumped on a man at Twin Oaks, Borehamwood, cracking his ribs.

Letters were delivered to Constant's neighbors, informing them of his activities, and posters were put up in the village, calling on Constant & Co to end their Brutal & Racist evictions.

Who wants to admit to their kids that they're a bailiff?

Brilliant strategy!

All these oppressors have homes and mortgages as well as reputations.
Most of 'em are cops and security gone 'wrong' who haven't got a hope in hell of getting legitmate jobs. Wonder why most people aren't aware of what they really do for a living?

Profile the fuckers and string 'em up all over town - preferably as mugshots on A0 posters!

Here's looking at you bailiff - scum of the earth!

Hope the travellers see some justice this year :0)

we know where you live mate

Who wants to admit to their kids that they're a bailiff? Well - I do.

I'm a bailiff. More to the point, I'm a Constant & Co bailiff.
Our un-named critic above displays considerable ignorance of both the law and the situation.
Firstly, let me deal with the subject of violence. We don't specialise in "violent action". It's counter-productive and it's illegal. Believe it or not (and I just know you won't) we run the same risk of being arrested by the police as those we're evicting. We have to stay inside the law. It speaks volumes that our people get hurt and injured far, far more often than the travellers we have to evict.
There is nothing racist in our attitude. We don't care about your ethnic background, your religion, your sexuality. What we care about is whether you are breaking the law. Just that, and nothing more. Cliff Codona likes to use the term "Ethnic Cleansing". As I've pointed out to him, there seems to be a lack of mass graves or concentration camps in Bedfordshire.
We have to find a way round this problem, it's true, but setting up illegal camps without planning permission isn't the way to do it. The planning regulations are there for a reason - in their absence this country would turn into an enormous garbage site in zero seconds flat. People do not make good neighbours. If an exception is made for one group, then why shouldn't I use my land to build a noisy factory? Or something else that impacts on my neighbour? I mean, the planning regulations don't seem to apply to travellers - why should they apply to me?
I talk to travellers on this subject frequently and we tend to agree that smaller sites are the way forward. There's been an encampment at Smithy Fen in Cambridgeshire for years. It's only since it grew and grew against planning laws that the local people have protested.
I welcome debate on this subject - it's the only way we are going to make progress. Our friend above, though, doesn't make me feel inclined to release my full name and address.
Correspondence c/o Constant & Co will reach me.
Tim
p.s. My family, friends and neighbours all know what I do.......

Tim

Bailiffs, Bailiffs, Bullshit

28.12.2005 01:26

Time and time again, we see bailiffs in the news, so lawful some not so lawful, it would appear that constant (empasis on the word con in the prison sense of the term) are one of the ' we're hard bastards and we know it ', merciless bailiffs who take a delight in dealing with that other nerfarious band of scum sucking, non tax (road tax .. council tax .. insurance tax .. VAT tax) paying leeches,. your common or garden pikies.

I have just be in receipt of a letter from some 'Civil Enforcement Officers' called CCS based in Bromsgrove, Worcs, for a fine which I had forgot about (a parking fine residue of 20.00)

I got a letter dated 15.12 which said pay 20.00 and 34.00 costs (for writing a letter ...) within 7 days, received several days after this due to xmas slowdown of post. Then we get a letter dated 22nd saying 'oh , you havent paid within 7 days, so now the debt is 88.00 .... heard of harassment for debt and false statements? I have. So these bastards think they can send standard mail with a few days difference to harass someone for 20 fucking quid.

Needless to say I've sent a 20.00 postal order to them and said if you want the rest, see you in court and I'll have the gracious pleasure of showing thr magistrate the two letters and telling them to PROVE when each letter was received by me. Well, they can't.

Bailiffs, debt collectors, all the same scum suckers, preying on the poor, the unemployed, those made redundant or disabled. Nothing but common thugs most of them, and as for the wanker who says he's proud to be a bailiff, we mate, I'd rather invite a paedophile to tea than you.

These bastards ply the law their way, and think they're scaring people. Just read the extract in the letter I got from CCS ...

'Visits will be made early morning, late evening or Saturdats and Sundays to ensure we meet with you.' . Well, best of fucking luck because I live ina third floor flat and have security intercom and a 1.5 inch think fire door protecting me, my property and my RIGHT for peaceful enjoyment of tenure as the law allows.

So Mr. Bailiff go and evict some 84 year old from her flat will you and do what you do best, pissing society off and preying on vulnerable members of socirty, cock-sucker.

Racism, alive and well...and still a vote catcher

06.05.2006 07:05

I have just seen the eviction at Boreham wood....I felt so deeply ashamed of being a part of any society that could treat people in this way....this contravenes race relations, child protection, health and safety and just about every other piece of legislation going....this needs to stop right now.
The only reason this is continuing is because people are not aware of what is going on. There has to be a change in either legislation or guidelines very quickly....

Lets make it happen.

Personal experience of Constant & Co

16.10.2007 12:02

I run a small property company in Bedfordshire. This company has some areas of land on which planning consent is being sought. In December 2002 travellers entered one of the sites and parked about twenty caravans. I was alerted to this by neighbours who urged me to evict them but because I am sympathetic to anyone with an alternative lifestyle I decided on a more reasonable approach.I visited the travellers and told them that I was happy for them to stay for a short period as long as they left the site clean and tidy. They assured me that they would move on after Christmas. On Christmas eve, as a gesture of goodwill, to took a large tin of sweets to the site for distribution amongst the children.

At the end of February the site was suddenly vacated and I was faced with a massive mountain of rubbish. Old fridges, empty gas bottles, broken up kitchen cupboards, old window frames, garden rubbish. (presumably the refuse from their local activities) also three months domestic rubbish from each of the caravans.

So when other travellers arrived a few months later I contacted Constant & Co. to have them removed. This company acted swiftly and efficiently. They complied with the law at every stage. They did not use unreasonable force or not act in a racist or intimidating manner and they did not hurt anyone. Exactly the same thing has happened on other occasions since then.

My view is that Constant & Co did a first class job and that I was fully justified in having these people removed. My experience is that claims of intimidation and racism are completely incorrect.
