The International Criminal Tribunal for Iraq, an extra-governmental and international body of jurists, has found Tony Blair and George W Bush guilty of war crimes and genocide.
Kohki Abe, a Japanese professor of law at Kanagawa University, said they should face the "maximum penalty available". The tribunal, which does not support the death penalty, recommended life sentences in prison with a possibility of parole after 25 years.
Abe commented that: "I have to emphasise that these acts should have been prosecuted in other venues, such as the International Court for Justice, but for legal or political reasons these four defendants are unlikely to be prosecuted."
Clearly he has failed to take into account the Pinochet precedent: prosecution for war crimes will never be far behind these people.
