Azim Ansari Rally at Broad Street, Oxford. Photos & Audio.

A Green Leprechaun | 05.03.2005 17:33 | Oxford

Up to 150 people turned out on Saturday 5th March to show support for Azim Ansari and his brother Wali, who are facing deportation after their appeal to remain in Britain failed. The rally was held on Broad Street, Oxford.

There was cross party support from the Greens, Liberal Democrat’s and Labour. A large proportion of the crowd were students from Oxford University. Several speakers took the stand to voice their support for Azim’s campaign (audio below). Music on the day was provided by a Samba Band called ‘BREACH OF THE PEACE’. (Be sure and check out their music below!).

Evan Harris and civil rights

06.03.2005 16:40

Evan Harris MP gave a stirring speech in defence of Azim and Wali and in opposition to Campsfield Detention Centre. However, he can't at all be trusted on civil rights - see his proposed amendment to the Serious Organised Crime Bill, which would make economic damage caused by protest a crime. He is concerned that Britain should be a "civilised place" to conduct the business of animal research! For more info:  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/oxford/2005/01/304135.html

Liberals, you just can't trust them..........

And the Labour Party spokesperson wasn't there "to talk about politics"!!
