Lt Cmdr. Dr. Adrian B Szwec died at Guantanamo Bay on 12th April 2004 reports CAROL ROSENBERG of Knight Ridder in the Miami Herald of 22nd Feb 2005.

The Pentagon's announcement of this "a noncombat related incident" is ten months late. It says he died `supporting Operation Enduring Freedom' - the Pentagon's name for the war in Afghanistan.

Dr. Szwec was a consultant anesthesiologist (anaesthetist) from the San Diego Naval Medical Center.

Anaesthethics involves not only the study of drugs and procedures maintaining unconciousness or killing pain, but also substances and activities which alter consciousness and cause pain.

Anybody else smell gas?

Also dying at Gitmo have been:
Army Master Sgt. Herbert Claunch, 58, of Wetumpka, Ala., after collapsing in his quarters - just six days after Szwec.
Army Sgt. Theodore L. Perreault, 33, of Webster, Mass., shot himself in Camp Bulkeley, Guantanamo Bay, Dec. 23, 2003.
Army Sgt. Ryan Foraker, 31, prison guard of Logan, Ohio, died Sept. 24, 2002. Military investigators found his clothing, but not his remains, near a base beach. His death was ruled an accident.
