Successful blockade against GM milk at Sainsbury's

no GM milk today!
no GM milk today!

Six people were arrested last night following the successful blockade of a Sainsbury's Distribution Centre.
Activists are demanding that Sainsbury’s honour their undertaking to stop marketing dairy products from animals reared on genetically modified soya and maize. Currently the use of animal feed is keeping GMOs in the food chain despite overwhelming opposition from consumers.
Sainsbury’s have also been heavily criticised for driving down farm-gate prices for dairy farmers who demand a fair price for GM free milk.
A coalition of environmentalists and farmers yet again blockaded Sainsbury’s huge regional distribution centre at Emerson’s Green, Bristol, overnight, causing disruption to Sainsbury’s retail supply across the South-West and beyond. Braving sub-zero temperatures and snow, campaigners blockaded the entrance to the depot, locking on for three hours with steel tubes.

Those arrested will be appearing at Northavon Magistrates Court, Yate, Bristol, on Wednesday 2nd March. Support will be needed.
