Can someone post a report on how this went along with the date of the next critical mass in Leeds?

I think I have to say that the first critical mass was a success! Around twenty of us met in millenium square and set off to reclaim the road from the cars in the centre of town on a friday evening. After a successful first loop of the city centre (no one got hurt despite an angry white van charging through)we set off on another loop, the horns of frustrated cars drowning in the tinkling of our bells. As we approached Wharf street we were pulled over by the police who complained that we were in the way of the cars! They couldn't understand how the cars have been in our way for so long. They threatened us with further action if we did not continue our route in single file.
After being tailed for a short distance we finished our second route as planned en masse!

Last month's (april) critical mass was also successful. We had fliers to hand out to motorists stuck in the rows behind us explaining exactly what we were doing and that we aren't just there to annoy them.
We're doing this as a protest against car culture, against a polluting transport system, its about expanding alternative means of transport that isn't fuelled by oil, its about taking back the space that should be ours. (And a great way to keep fit - just in case anyone in the cars behind us are driving to the gym!)

So come down and join us this month (May), on friday 27th, bring your bike, skateboard, roller blades or running shoes. Be there, every last friday of the month in the millenium square, 5.30 pm!
