Subvertised! "The law should protect people not property!" :: Nottingham

alan lodge [Tash] | 20.02.2005 17:58

Found in Lenton, Nottingham.
Actually, being a piece of advertising, that has been 'Subvertised', it is a tory election poster that they thought should have said.
"The law should protect me, not burglars!"

I think you get the idea. Nottingham might see some more of this :-)

>>I take it you are a thieving chav?

this is a daily mail reader comment. paul dacre, editor of the daily mail, reportedly earned £750,000 plus £350,000 in share options a couple of years back. his boss, viscount rotheremere is number 38 in the times rich list, worth, with his family, £798m. meantime, down at the dole office, people have other concerns:

"A further issue has been brought to my attention, cash machines only payout in multiples of £10 notes and many are now moving to paying out in multiples of £20 notes, meaning those who have to withdraw their meagre full weekly benefit to buy food, to pay their rent or buy credit on their fuel cards may not be able withdraw it all to the nearest £5 or even the nearest £3, £2, £1 or 50p that's if they can find a cash machine in their neighbourhood in the first place. If there’s no local cash machine it will mean another cost getting the bus to a cash machine or a local bank or a large supermarket so you can get some cash back with your card. FACT: You can not withdraw £9.99 or anything less from a cash machine!"

burglary is to be condemned, but you tell me chav hater, where's the real theft? and do we get to arm ourselves with shotguns against these people?

Daily Mail reader:: Wot more do we expect!

I had not heard the term 'chav' before. However, on conducting a google search, using this language, I now completely understand the politics of where this chap "chav hater" is coming from.

the Mail online | Columnists |... A search for the meaning of chav shows that it has emerged as a ... adjectively for any community with a reputation for harbouring an unpleasant, thieving element.

& all this gives a further clue!

rabid and rude people!

> I take it you are a thieving chav?

Idiot!
The object of subvertising this poster was to question the priorites you tories would place on property Vs People. Reading some of these links, I think I understand where your coming from. Name calling is about the level eh?

Property

You may like me have no love for the Tories but the message of this campaign must strike a chord with a number of people. The average sentance now for a repeat burglar is 3 months ! How is this a deterant to burgle your home, or your mothers' or best friend's ?

Burglary becomes a far bigger issue when it has been you that is affected.

deterrence from sentencing is the big myth of the criminal justice system - people don't generally plan to get caught doing a crime (except eg 'accountable action' protestors)!

If a crime is premeditated, the perpetrator takes what they consider adequate precautions to avoid getting caught, so possible sentance is not a factor (detection rate may be), if it is committed 'in the heat of the moment', there is no thought to consequences, by definition. The fall in sentencing for burglary, and murder, for that matter has *not* led to an increase in occurance. The call for tougher sentences for anti-social crimes is simply a call for vengence, an eye for an eye mentality with little chance of acheiving the alleged desired results.

Nice subvert! Anarchists for law ;-)

What is needed..

21.02.2005 17:42

Exactly, "Legal"

Cutting off the hands would be a far better deterrent.

Person

Yeah, cut off their hands!

22.02.2005 01:24

Then the anti-social bastards can't make other people's lives a misery by trolling Indymedia with their Daily Mail spouting crap, lolol

Any chance someone could hit the "It's not racist to send the w*gs home" ones as well? (OK it doesn't really say that but it might as well) - I think, "It's not racist to deport Michael Howard" would be a nice reworking!

lol

Excellent!

22.02.2005 14:32

To those that say 'burglary is so horrible' - Yes it is horrible, but that still does not give anyone the right to attack someone to protect their beloved tv.

We were 'burgled', but with us, it was 'legal' (only in the fact that it wasn't some random person) - the police did it. Yes it was horrible but we got over it and are using the existing laws to get compensation for it. It should be the same with ordinary burglars.

Weirdos who WANT to get burgled

You freaks. You love it. You can't wait for the next time someone tries to break into your pebble dash home so that you can 'have a go'.

"DARLING, FETCH THE SLEDGE-HAMMER, WE'VE GOT BURGLARS AGAIN - HOORAY!!"
