About 50 people gathered at Manchester Students Union last night to discuss working together against the G8 Summit, to be held at Gleneagles, Scotland, from 4th – 6th July. The ‘Summat for the Summit’ meeting was called to get people involved in raising awareness about the G8, the centrepiece of the annual round of conferences at which the governments of the main imperialist countries come together to carve up their global loot.

The TRAPESE road-show showed a number of short films on issues related to the G8, including Undercurrents’ excellent climate change piece, ‘Cheeky Apocalypse’. This was followed by a question and answer session, and a discussion of how to go forward. It was agreed to hold monthly awareness raising events (next one on 10th March), and weekly organising/networking meetings, commencing 16th February (these will be at the Students Union, 7.30pm, all welcome).

A collection raised £36 to help send a delegate to the Dissent! network European meeting in Tübingen, Germany, at the end of February. (If you would like to donate to this, ring 07960 890758 ASAP). Manchester is on the march, and we want to make sure everyone knows it!
