Droitwich District Council have decided to destroy the towns famous lido despite opposition from 67% of local people.

Droitwich District Council have decided to destroy the town's historic lido, despite opposition from 67% of local people. The lido is an outdoor naturally salted swimming pool. A group of local people set up an action group SALT to save the lido. They have widespread local support. SALT came up with a plan to make the lido economically viable, (despite being of the belief that as a civic amenity it should not have to make a profit); it would be a swimming pool in the summer and an ice rink in the winter. Yet the council have decided the best option is to destroy it and make it into a flower bed. Apparently the council has a large pot of money from selling off land to property developers which is supposed to be spent on leisure facilities for the local community.
Democracy is alive and well in Worcestershire.
