I am arranging transport from Oxford and area. Please let me know by
Saturday 12th February if you want a place and I will arrange a minibus / car
share / bus, whatever is appropriate for the numbers. We would ask for a small
contribution to cover hire and fuel costs. Let me have your name, telephone
contact details and roughly where you live by email.
Please support this demonstration against THE LARGEST CENTRE OF IMMIGRATION DETENTION IN THE UK.*
Colnbrook opened a few months ago. It has been built and is run on more prison like terms than any detention centre so far. There is very little free association between detainees. Detainees cannot go to the library unescorted. It has generated complaints about conditions right from the start.
There were two deaths resulting from suicide attempts at Harmonsworth and Colnbrook last year. These need never have happened and should never have happened.
*Harmondsworth has a capacity of 551 places and Colnbrook has 326
places.
