Piss Poor Support Services for "Mentally Ill" Dover Kent UK

Queen Mab | 03.02.2005 08:57 | Health | Repression | South Coast

The provision of services in Dover, Kent UK for the mentally ill is woefully inadequate. No wonder so many people top themselves.

For those living in Dover, support services for the mentally ill are piss poor. Here are some tentative conclusions I have reached:

1. One locally operating alleged mental health charity is merely a hoover for local government funds whilst providing a lowest common denominator crap service for as few people as it can get away with. It's only interested in dealing with the most manageable "service users".

2. Anti-psychotic drugs are a means of social control, aimed at zombifying people so that they are no longer seen as a threat to society, or a way of 'hiding' the mentally ill so that adequate social services do not need to be provided.

3. GPs and psychiatrists are highly paid drug dealers.

4. The major beneficiary of all the misery of the mentally ill is the big Pharmaceutical companies.

5. It would sure help if the NHS hired witch-doctors/psychiatrists who came from, and had the same cultural origin, as the people they are treating. Otherwise, they are likely to make big clinical errors.

6. No-one gives a shit about any of this. It would be better if those classified by The State as officially mentally ill would: A) take their deadening, toxic medication and die slowly whilst making massive profits for multinational drugs firms or B) fuck off and die as soon as possible.

7. Treating people as though they are mental spastics or patronising them to a high degree doesn't help either.

Erm...that's it. Rant over for now.

Prozac Nation

From personal experience I can tell you that the way the NHS deals with the mentally ill is disgusting. I have learnt being on anti-depressants myself, and from others that the magic pill (Prozac) is the answer to every doctor’s worst nightmare...the depressed patient. The NHS psychiatrists are patronising and text book dummies. I know it seems like I’m expressing my one opinion of a bad experience, and I’ve had many. But truly there seems to be a problem here. The NHS psychiatrists aren’t good enough and private psychiatrists are expensive. We are I fear, creating a “Prozac Nation”

Prozac]"was associated with more hospitalisations, deaths, or other serious adverse reactions reported to the FDA than any other drug in America."
Business week 3/16/98

And it worries me. What can we do to make this important issue more of an issue. We can learn from America’s mistakes with drugs such as Prozac, and research more into metal illness. Please do something about this before its too late…

"There was a 68% increase in the number of (anti-depressant) prescriptions given to an estimated 25,000 youngsters up to the age of 17 in Britain"
