23rd July 2005 = 10 years since RTS started*

*well ten years since the islington upper street big party
(the first one was in camden in may 1995)

For historical accuracy, Reclaim the Streets was re-started after the M11 protests in London. It began earlier than that, as a coalition of anti-roads groups, pulled together by Brixton Earth First! Before that, the name wasn't RTS but Carmageddon, and the first Carmageddon action, which reclaimed a street with all the usual things, was in Brighton in December 1991, by South Downs Earth First! Before that, there were I think in the 70s street parties, possibly in Oxford Road, London, organised by a group I can't remember the name of, something like Eco Dwarves, who I think were organising Critical Masses before they were called that too...
