cops threaten G8 repression

police are preparing to use submachine guns and rubber bullets to defend leaders of the G8 who will meet at gleeagles. they are carrying out training in a mock up village on the site of a closed down hsopital. the closed down law hospital, lanarkshire has been turned into a mock village, complete with its own names, in which to train riot squads.

The police are practising with guns adapted to fire rubber bullets. rubber bullets are noterious from their use in northern ireland, where they killed 17 people since 1972.

one scottish police officer was quoted in the press saying "they have crearted an entire village around the hospital with street names like millport ave and law rd.

campaigners reacted with anger to news of the police plans. members of MSP were set to table questions and motions of protest.
