Case of Babar Ahmed to be broadcast on national television

This concerns the high profile case of Babar Ahmed, a British Citizen facing extradition to the U.S. Babar was arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000 in December 2003. During the arrest he was brutally assaulted by the Anti Terrorist Police officers and sustained over 50 injuries, 2 of which were life threatening. Babar was released 6 days later without charge after thorough searching of his home and belongings. An independant consultant medical report and photographs taken by his solicitor whilst in custody were amongst the evidence of this. To this day just one of the officers is facing a disciplinary hearing from the Independant Police Complaints Commission, this seems to be a cynical way of scapgoating one officer to spare the superiors from blame.

In August 2004, Babar was rearrested on an extradition warrent from the U.S. As some of you will be aware, the nature of the Extradition Act of 2003 means the U.S does not need to provide primae facie evidence against the defendant although the recent repatriation of British national held at Guantanamo bay (all be it back to a british prison - still without real charges, evidence)may complicate this. He remains in Belmarsh prison to this day without charge.

I urge you all to watch the programme TERROR SUSPECTS DAD WEDNESDAY 26TH JANUARY 10PM BBC2 which will detail the case further.
