Help needed to stop Linslade Bypass

Boris | 19.01.2005 09:45 | Ecology | London | Oxford

Activists are needed now to stop a bypass - a key part of Prescotts housing and airport plan for Southeast England.

Not far north of London in Rural Buckinghamshire acts of ecological destructions are taking place thanks to Buckinghamshire County council and contractors Fitzpatrick.

The bypass route (a dual carridgeway) will travel through open countryside around the edge of Linslade / Leighton Buzzard and then head north to Milton Kenyes.
There are several ancient trees on site which will be felled.

On Monday local people held an early morning protest and scared away the Bulldozers that day. Over 40 people turned up to the protest which was locally dtriven but bolstered by activists from Oxford including several Newbury Veterans. Shortly after the protest a bannner appeared in a tree next to the main road reading "No New Bypass".

Unfortunately on Tuesday only half a dozen activists were able to stay in the area and while some direct action did take place the surveyors mostly worked unhindered.
It is hard to say exactly when trees will be felled but many have been marked so could be imminant.

The protest site is focused around the B4032 Linslade to Soulbury roads between Dollar and Valley farms. You can also walk a mile or two from the Linslade / Leighton Buzzard train station which has direct trains to London. For more information contact local campaign coordiantor Victoria Harvey on 01525 385 097 or 07815 817 108. Please come!

Victoria Harvey was arrested this afternoon for preventing a digger from carrying out its lawful business. Also arrested was Rebecca Lush from Roadblock. though there are lots of us locally who will continue the protest - more support would be welcome.

See the website for how to find us.

And if you want to visit the protest camp it's on the B4032 west of linslade,
between Dollar Farm and Valley Farm, and could do with support :)

Local Residents want this road

Have you asked whether there's any support for your actions in Linslade. There's precious little actually.

The proposed road will alleviate the flow of traffic through rural villages at Soulbury, Stoke Hammond, and Stewkley - all of which are badly affected by the fact that the main route between Buckinghamshire's county town, Aylesbury, and its largest city - Milton Keynes currently runs along a network of country lanes.

What is a Dual "Carridgeway" anyway ?
