Yesterday there was a vigil outside of Sheffield Town Hall to draw attention to the fact that Palestine is still illegally occupied, and that 1.2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip remain imprisoned.

People gathered with banners demanding justice for Palestine and leaflets were handed out to Saturday shoppers highlighting Israel's continued unchecked abuses on the Palestinian people. In the Gaza Strip the Palestinian population is now entering its fith week under the latest of many sieges, with all routes in and out of the area closed by the Israeli authorities. This has resulted in the virtual imprisonment of 1.2 million Palestinians in the region. One family from Sheffield has been caught up in this on-going siege of the Gaza strip. The family of a Palestinian-born British citizen living in Sheffield travelled to the region before Christmas to visit family and since have been prevented by the siege from returning home.
