Demo against Newhaven incinerator

mr burns | 14.01.2005 16:32 | South Coast

Come and demonstrate against plans to build an incinerator in Newhaven
on Thursday 20th January outside Hove Town Hall, at 4pm.

The European Landfill Directive, which came into effect on 16 July 2001, demands significant reductions in the quantity of biodegradable waste disposed of in landfills. As part of the drive to comply with the Landfill Directive, the Government has set mandatory recycling targets for local authorities.

East Sussex County Council are arguing that incineration is necessary to meet the UK's commitments under the Directive, or to deal with residual waste left after maximum practical recycling levels have been achieved. Neither of these arguments is tenable.

'It is entirely possible to achieve the Landfill Directive without using incineration, using a flexible 'pick and mix' option. Such an option would utilise source separation, kerbside collection, composting, recycling and mechanical screening to deal with municipal waste in a way that actively contributes to the economic, social and environmental goals of sustainable development.'

We (SAIN - Slough Anti-Incinerator Network) are fighting two new massive incinerators (one burning radioactive waste) in Slough/West London, and want to link up with other autonomous community fights to beat the big picture. We know none of us are Nimbys and we offer our support etc to your struggle!

Feel free to use any of the info etc on our website and drop us a line if you get a chance, the above mail address goes to another campaign member but will be forwarded onto the rest of us.

Hi there,

Firstly, sorry I cant make it to yer demo, in another part of the country at the time.

However, let me offer sincere wishes of good luck for the day and yer campaign.

We (SAIN - Slough Anti-Incinerator Network) are fighting the building of two huge new incinerators (one burning radioactive) near Slough/West London. We know that none of us are guilty as charged of being nimbys, and we wish to make links with other autonomous community fights (globally) in order to win the big picture.

With this in mind I wish you the best of luck for your struggle - drop us a line sometime if you get a chance, the email address goes to another campaign member but will be forwarded to the rest of us.

Please feel free to use anything off our website if you wanna.

In Love, Rage and Solidarity.

No Incineration!

We can't let our councillors affect our health and the health of generations to come in this way. Mindless air pollution must stop, we MUST find alternatives NOW.
