PUBLIC MEETING

STOP THE WAR - BRING THE TROOPS HOME

Called by East Oxford Stop the War Coalition

TUES 25th Jan, 7,30 pm, East Oxford Community Centre

Speakers: Lindsey German - Stop the War Coalition national convenor
Councillor John Tanner - Labour against the War
Jake Sanders - Green Party parliamentary spokesperson for East Oxford
Nuala Young - CND,local peace activist
John Lister - RESPECT coalition

All Welcome, especially - but by no means limited to - those living and
working in East Oxford.

The planned elections in Iraq this month show no sign of ending the
bloodshed - even the Iraqi 'government' admits that there are some
200,000 insurgents and sympathisers resisting US occupation - that's
more than the entire US military presence. Meanwhile, as refugees begin
to return to the rubble of Fallujah, reports are beginning to come out that
the US 'liberation' of that city was in fact a massacre, with many
civilians among the dead. The only people set to benefit from the
situation in Iraq are the US multinationals poised to carve up the
economy.

For all these reasons, we need to strengthen the anti-war movement, and
build for the planned day of direct action against the occupation on
15th February and the global day of protest on March 19th.

Direct action or a march

Is the SWP, sorry i mean the Stop the War Campaign now into direct action. I thought Linsey German was against it as elite when marching up and down the road to hear uplifting speaches was the way to create change. Can we expect STWC trainings on the best wire cutting techniques and how to disable a B52?

Jo

Or both?

Why not both? The fact the STWC is supporting both days suggests to me that they are supporting direct action as well as marching. And if you know how to dismantle a B52 Jo, why not come along to the meeting and educate the rest of us?

Mike

Well done for getting some antiwar activity going, which is more than most of us are doing...

Having said that, it is really necessary for people coming to a meeting of a local grassroots antiwar group to have to sit and listen to Lindsey German and co drone on
and on? I don't know about anyone else but the prospect certainly puts me off!
