"you know, the trouble with young people today is they're not rebellious, and they have no politics"... (para-) quote from Tariq Ali, J17 (at a talk given the night before J18).

If he did indeed say that, it does indeed apply to the vast majority of "young people" today. Sure, there are admirable and dedicated young activists who are remarkable in their anti-capitalist/anti-war work, but this pales comparison with the late 60's - in what was Tariq's day.

My local, unfunded, mutual aid, grass roots, anti-capitalist direct action group would love to hear the views of this well-known TV pundit. Could you please inform me of his fee for opening his mouth?

(1) Nonsense, way more young people are politically active today than in the 1960s. The 60s have been mythologised as a decade of youth revolution but actually only a relatively small proportion of young people were involved in campaigning compared to today.

(2) The Tariq Ali quote is out of context. He was _referring to _ and _mocking_ the idea that young people aren't interested.

I attend SOAS, and have been to several Said-Fanon Society events. They're brilliant! And, they're free and open to all!

Indeed, it could be described as a local, unfunded, mutual aid, grass roots, anti-imperialist group.

And, what's more, none of their speakers charge a fee!
