Manchester Samba Bands united to give an excellent performance to raise money for the tsunami appeal.

More than 5 samba percussion bands, including the Manchester School of Samba, Sambangra, SambAfriq (Chorley), Republic of Swing Bateria (Salford) and the Manchester Radical Activist samba band, got together on 8th Januay to bask in Manchester city centre. The money will be all forwarded to the south east asia following the tsunami disaster.

The city centre was transformed into a stage of colour, rhythm, and energy for the whole of the afternoon. Samba dancers as well as the Urban Gypsies danced to the rhythms of the huge united samba band for the whole afternoon, all raising the significant amount of 700 pounds.

hello

it started as 1 big band (all bands together) playing under the Big Wheel. Then the school of samba went round the corner for an hour and played there (still as part of the Tsunami Fund raising). Then they came back and joined the big group and sambangra went round the corner and played for a bit. Finally all bands fused together again for a magnificent finale.
