Anti Deportation - Support the Alam family

Sam | 31.12.2004 18:57 | Migration

On 29th December the Home Office agreed to review the case of the Alam Family who have lived in Manchester for the past two years with their two young children, the eldest of whom is settled at school here. The case is to be reviewed on January 10th and at this stage letters to the home secretary will help their case.

AKM Zahangir Alam is from Bangladesh and it is likely that he will be killed if he goes back there. The family have been threatened with deportation twice already and Mr Alam is currently detained at Tinsley House, separated from his wife and children.

Letters to MP’s Charles Clarke and Beverley Hughes could include the following information; that you know the family (if you do), they are settled here, that their older son is doing well at school and that you are concerned that someone could be deported from this country to face death.

A possible model letter follows:

Rt. Hon. Charles Clarke MP
Home Secretary
Home Office
50 Queen Anne’s Gate
London SW1H 9AT

And / or

Rt. Hon. Beverley Hughes MP
Minister of State for Citizenship, Immigration and Community Cohesion
Home Office
50 Queen Anne’s Gate
London SW1H 9AT

Re: AKM Zahangir Alam: Home Office Ref. A1145038

Dear Charles Clarke / Beverley Hughes

I am writing in support of the Alam family who fled to the UK escaping persecution and threats to their lives in Bangladesh.

I know the family and they had become settled in Manchester. Unfortunately, since Mr Alam has been detained at Tinsley House, he has become separated from his wife and children who remain in Manchester. The family’s eldest son is doing well at his primary school here.

The family have already faced the emotional and physical upheaval of the imminent threat of deportation twice and it is unjust and inhuman to send this family back to face the likely death of Mr Alam, and this is why I am asking you to allow them to remain in the UK when their case is reviewed on January 10th 2005.

Yours Sincerely
