Dan Roberts | 31.12.2004 00:12 | Analysis | Social Struggles | World

A 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Russia, China, and Cuba.

Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (December 31) is up at the website  http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:26)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From NETHERLANDS- Former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark has joined the defense team for Saddam Hussein- how Clark's presence may influence the trial is analyzed. The militant Palestinian group Hamas has been a major force in the middle east war- the effect of their violent actions may be turning many Israelis against the occupation.
From RUSSIA- Israel has launched a new military operation in the West Bank. A US Senator has denied that the $65 million the US government gave to finance the opposition in the Ukraine election, ended up in Yushchenko’s campaign funds. Russia does not trust the election monitors in the Ukraine election. The West is happy with Yuschenko's apparent victory, but the move away from Russia may have many expensive consequences. An American military historian says that the US military in Iraq may suffer a defeat because of a lack of planning.
From CHINA- China and Russia will be holding joint military manuevers on Chinese territory next year. China has released a White Paper on national defense, reaffirming it would crush any moves toward Taiwan independence. N Korea has rejected the latest demand from the US for a unilateral disarmament.
From CUBA- A US jet registered to a "ghost company" is taking prisoners and suspects to countries that use torture.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via  http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better-  http://www.freakradio.org Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-  http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative-  http://www.partytown.com/radio
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
