BBC Radio Audience Says Bollux to The Ballot Box

Ed | 28.12.2004 15:01

Today, the subject of BBC Radio 5's phone in - voting in the general election would be a waste of time - won overwhelming approval from the audience. There is a need for a campaign against participating in it, to hightlight the lack of real democrasy.

Most of those who phoned in said that there was no longer a choice between the political parties, and that they didn't agree with what was on offer. Many added that even within the parties MP's just followed the party line without ever thinking for themselves.

The number who said they were former labour voters was interesting in that it indicates New Labour may not be heading for the majority that's expected. It is obvious now why New Labour are pushing for compulsory voting.

A serious consequence of all this could be the emergence of an extreme right-wing party, but the way New Labour operate, they'll shift futher and eat up that ground. This is the infamous third way: move right. Who knows what will happen: any or all three of the parties may be in coaliton before long, doing a two or three step right-wards.

Anyway, these good citizens, who made the effort to call in to the BBC, deserve and need our support, it's no less than a civic duty: we should support an active anti-General Election. non-campaign.

Stickers, posters, T-shirts, petitions, web-site and those magnificent stunts we see reported here.

Some slogans:
I'd Rather Choke Than Vote
No to Elected Dictatorships
Don't Vote: It's Fucking a Joke
This Democracy is a Sham
No to an Elected Creche
Don't Vote for Sheep (Not sure about this. It would be good to clean out all the bullshit and lovely to see real sheep in parliament), so ...
Don't Vote for Bullshit

Now, I am getting really carried away: write your own name on the ballot and vote for yourself.

The non-campaign manager says: don't be silly unless you have too; don't peak too early; and don't create a backlash.

Hoping revolution is alive in 2005, with peace, love, understanding, and controlled anger.
