A mass e-mail action has been called to demand that Charles Clarke, the new Home Secretary, frees the Belmarsh Nine, imprisoned without trial in December 2001.
Mass e-mail action: Free the Belmarsh Nine
The Law Lords ruled on 16 December 2004 that the detention of foreign "terrorist" suspects without trial breaks human rights laws.
Nine men are currently imprisoned without trial in Belmarsh prison, also known as Britain's Guantanamo Bay. They have not been charged with any crime and are not able to see the "intelligence" evidence against them. Their solicitors say they have been "entombed in concrete".
Charles Clarke has just taken up his new job as Home Secretary, following in the footsteps of David Blunkett, the most right-wing Home Secretary in living memory.
Charles Clarke must now release the Belmarsh Nine. Write and ask him when they will be freed. You can contact Charles Clarke as:
charles.clarke@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk
If you have not received a reply within 20 days then follow the Home Office Complaints Procedure described here:
http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/inside/org/dob/direct/dcu.html#standards
Do not be fobbed off. Insist on a reply from Charles Clarke himself!

I the undersigned hereby demand that the names of all white upper middle class liberals campaigning for the freeing of The Belmarsh Nine should be put in a draw and the first nine names drawn out should have to have one of The Belmarsh Nine come and live with them for the next thirty years when The Belmarsh Nine get released and have to stay under house arrest .

'I would rather live in a society that allows the bomber to walk free rather than be banged up.' Like H you would. Only as long as it's not you the released terrorist blows up. This is all about liberals wanting to feel good about themselves. Nothing else.
I hope the Belmarsh Nine stay in Belmarsh until they rot.
