Pinochet to Stand Trial

Anticapitalist | 13.12.2004 18:21

Pinocet, Chile's former Military Ruler, was today placed under house arrest on human rights charges over the disappearance of nine opposition activists and the killing of one during his 17-year regime.

He has been judged fit to stand trail.

This is great news.

Some background material on Agusto Pinocet.

Wonder who the judges will be...

Hopefully not the same ones who tried Berlusconi.

If he is healthy enough to stand trial now then he must have been ....

If Thatchers old pal is fit to stand trial now and has all his marbles he must have been up for it
when he was "captured" in britain, as I recall one Nazi Jack Straw made the decision.
It seems that the war on terror does not include people who undoubtedly terrorised thousands of
innocent people. britain has always been a haven for right wing terrorists.

Pinochet- House arrest lifted

14.12.2004 14:24

Unfortunatly last news are that the house arrest of ex-dictator Pinochet has been lifted after an appeal by his lawyers.

The order of arrest was passed yesterday by judge Guzman in conection with Pinochet involvement in one murder and 9 kidnappings part of the judge's investigation into the so-called Operation Condor (secret agreemet during the 70s between different military governments of southamerica by which they cooperated in targeting opponents to their regimes, killing them and dsecretly disposing of their bodies).

The move by the defense lawyers has to go now through an appeals court, but on the mean time the house arrest order is suspended.
