"Human Rights Education"

"Human rights education is much more than a lesson in schools or a theme for a day; it is a process to equip people with the tools they need to live lives of security and dignity.

On this International Human Rights Day, let us continue to work together to develop and nurture in future generations a culture of human rights, to promote freedom, security and peace in all nations."

Kofi Annan, Secretary-General, United Nations

The attached photo was taken on 10 December 2002 during the 54th International Human Rights Day 'Noon Peace March' in Washington DC. When more than 300 demonstrators first gathered in Farragut Square for an Opening Rally and then marched in front of the White House before they would return to Farragut Square for a Closing Rally. They demanded that the Bush administration adhere to the principles adopted in the United Nations doctrine known as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights ( http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html) that had been enacted more than 50 years ago. And, therefore, demanding further that Bush 'not go to war' with Iraq. ( http://dc.indymedia.org/newswire/display_any/43018.
