From NETHERLANDS- ETA, the Basque separtist movement in Spain, set off 7 small explosives around Madrid after warning the police- will this help or hinder their goal of a separate country? Bolivia's socialist political party is now the largest in the nation, joining Brazil and Venezuela in an impromptu Latin American socialist bloc.
From CHINA- China’s largest computer maker has bought IBM's PC production business. Following a German visit to China, renewable energy products, as well as some Volkswagen and Mercedes autos will be built in China. UN Sec General Kofi Annan received a great deal of support this week despite American Republicans calling for his resignation. Long-awaited reforms in the UN have been brought to the table by senior diplomats. Russia says it will be ready to join the WTO in about a year. The UN's annual hunger report points out an increase in the number of malnourished people in the world from 2000-2002.
From RUSSIA- Russian fighter jets have begun licensed production in India. Russia has begun shipping parts to build a nuclear reactor in Southern India. Russian Pres Putin criticized the spread of pseudo-democracy by the US in Ukraine, Georgia and other parts of the world.
From CUBA- The head of the military police in Chile under Pinochet says that the CIA trained the dictators secret police. At the international conference on climate change in Argentina, the US refused to discuss the possibility of applying the restrictions of the Kyoto Protocols. Tony Blair has rejected a call for an independent inquiry into the number of civilian deaths in Iraq since the invasion and occupation by US and British troops.
