Well, over a year now, that folks have been living on the site, but 50 bailiffs and a hundred or so police, [including the road-blocks around the district, evicted the three people living there today. Through the course of the afternoon, I watched them saw down a 300 year old beech tree to make way for some more 'progress'.

Three people were arrested as bailiffs moved onto the site in Debdale Lane, Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire.

The group had been camped in the threatened trees for 15 months. Three protesters were arrested by the bailiffs for on suspicion of obstructing a court officer. A fourth is understood to have left voluntarily.

The bailiffs say safety is their main priority while the remaining protester is located.

[yea right!!]

PROTEST: FOUR IN COURT
From the Nottingham Evening Post
>>

12:00 - 14 December 2004
Four people arrested during a dawn police raid to remove protesters from woodland earmarked for development have appeared in court.

Around 100 police officers, specialist tree climbers and housing company staff staged the action earlier this month to remove protesters from treehouses on woodland at the junction of Sherwood Rise and Debdale Lane, Mansfield Woodhouse.

Four people appeared at Mansfield Magistrates' Court yesterday, each charged with obstructing a court officer in the execution of his duty.

The cases of David Thomas, 32, and Gareth Williams, 25, of Debdale Gate, Mansfield Woodhouse; Daniel Wilson, 26, of Denor Drive, Mansfield Woodhouse, and Robert Buchanan, 26, of Stanton Lees, Matlock, were adjourned until next month. They were all given conditional bail.

Some of the things I haven’t seen reported on the net regarding this protest

23.02.2005 12:00

Some of the things that I haven’t seen reported on the net regarding this protest;
The people arrested on the eviction day are still being pursued in the courts (normal procedure is to drop the case)
The local council is taking some of the local residents to court - on 'unrelated' charges (messing up their council tax payments, public nuisance orders etc.)
Vandalism in the area has gone up from virtually none to weekly/daily incidents.
Theft from local houses has gone up - no police help
During the protest, cars and a motorbike was tampered with - including brakes loosened - almost killing the 2 protesters who started the campaign and a 6x12 security barrier dropped into the path of a protesters car.
A constant stream of one sided stories in the local press against the protesters, inc. personal insults against one of the most prominent local protest supporter.

We have not lost. We have caused 'them' to react. They must be desperate to use such measures. They WILL think twice when we challenge them next time. But remember, we are up against a government that is quite willing to change the law to make us seem like terrorists!
The village green application is still progressing although the County Council is trying to wait till some law change.

The support that the warband has given has been invaluable - Thanks especially to Hollen and Rowan.

to do their uniformed security. They also employed at least one spy who later turned up at another protest. He gave his name as Dan, email was  constatntcaver@hotmail.com said he was known as Danny Boy. He was flash with his cash, took everyone to the pub the night before the eviction. He even sent us a cheque in the name of Dan S Holme for £50 towards our fighting fund. See attached scan, The address given was for a youth Hostelin Cumbria where he claimed to have worked as a chef. Subsequent investigation indicates that this place was shut down 2 years before.

He asked far too many questions and seemed keen to connect out protest to animal rights..

I have attached a picture, of him could anyone who recognises him leave a message here..

Spy Hunter

Er... I don't work for Bellway

29.03.2012 14:32

Hi folks,

Bit surprised to see myself named and shamed as a Bellway spy, as I've never worked for them and never will. Whoever did the 'subsequent investigation' into Dentdale YHA didn't do a very good job - this photo was taken in 2006, and the hostel was definitely still open then - it shut down in that year, but at the end of the season in 2006. Spy Hunter, whoever you are, please get in touch with me and discuss your accusations - I have nothing to hide from you. If some security firm have been spreading lies about me then I'll take them to the cleaners, but I swear that I am no spy and never have been. I was making a bit of extra cash at the time and just wanted to support a good cause - I was also down in Oxford because I had a girlfriend working at Ridgeway YHA and I was visiting her too. Please, please get in touch and discuss this.

Many thanks,

Daniel Holme

Who is Spy Hunter anyway?

29.03.2012 15:35

As Spy Hunter doesn't want to reveal themselves, let me also say that the above account of my alleged misdeeds is wrong in several details. I arrived in Oxford on the day of the eviction, and not the night before, to find a lot of very demoralised people sitting in the pub. Before that I hadn't set foot in Oxford for nearly seven years. I was flash with my cash - I wish I could still afford to be - but the cheque had actually been sent some time before, in response to an appeal in Schnews, and back then I was single and could afford to help out a bit more. The allegation that I was trying to link the protest to animal rights is a bit rich - my previous visits to Oxford had been during the Hillgrove farm demos, and I mentioned them to make conversation. At the same time I was also sending the occasional parcel to Camp Bling, where I had friends - friends that I have probably now lost due to these baseless allegations. Let me be clear - I was a chef for the YHA, and after Dentdale shut I moved on to Castleton, then Wilderhope, then left the organisation and now work in teaching. I do not work for Bellway, and never have. If Spy Hunter has proof of these allegations then he or she should post it online, but all they have is a suspicion - which they appear to have waited six years to voice. As it is, for me, fond memories of being able to make a small difference have been destroyed and replaced with paranoia and fear. The real police spies must be dying with laughter, watching us infight and destroy ourselves. Those people who know me - from Woodhouse, from Nine Ladies, from Stoke sabs (back in the day) - will know I have always been upfront about the fact I am related to serving police officers, and have always trusted my discretion and integrity. Again, Spy Hunter, get in touch, or even arrange a meeting - I live in Derby, I'd be happy to meet you at the train station or the Vic - and talk to me. But don't accuse me over the internet and destroy my reputation and my friendships based on a hunch.

Thanks again,

Dan Holme
